There is a discrepancy here between the assertion that Pessoa was from the Paraiba Republican Party (but supported by the Sao Paulo Republicans), and that of the Portuguese Wikipedia that he was the actual nominee of the Sao Paulo Republicans, which makes a lot more sense, as his political background was as an office-holder from Sao Paulo State (Senator, etc). So I question the sources (unnamed) which asserts his membership of the Paraiba Republicans — a state he he nothing evident to do with.

The source is the Nohlen book, which I've just checked again and does state that he was the candidate of the Paraiba Republican Party, supported by the Paulista and Mineiro Republican parties. Unfortunately the Brazilian source for the results is dead (and not available on the web archive). Pessoa was from Paraiba and his pt.wiki biography states that "His candidacy was supported by Minas Gerais".
