Deletion

I've initiated this page about Zuula because -- among other things -- the search site has been in existence and active use for over a year, and because it has been mentioned in numerous places online and in print. At the same time, I want to be open about the fact that I am one of the founders of the site, and I therefore encourage open, constructive scrutiny of (a) my suggestion that the page be created, and (b) my suggested text for the page.

Regarding the text for the page, I have attempted to provide basic, objective information that focuses on the site's key characteristics while avoiding "hype" or "marketing speak". I believe there are other, positive aspects of Zuula that could be discussed on the page, but I have consciously left it to others to decide whether such content should be included. After initially deleting this article as a CSD G11 (which, as an aside, I meant to do as an A7), the creator contacted me by email and provided some good reasoning in which he disagreed with my deletion - the summary of that reasoning is listed above. I agree and have restored the article. Tijuana Brass 17:32, 6 November 2007 (UTC) reply

Notability

Have added external links to several reviews of Zuula in response to questions related to the site's notability. Will leave it up to others to decide whether these additions are sufficient to warrant removing the notability flag above the page. Simkovich 19:51, 6 November 2007 (UTC) reply

Do you have any references or stories about Zuula made by the press (for example, a newspaper or a well-known tech related site like CNet or Wired)? That would be particularly helpful. Moving in the right direction here, good job. Tijuana Brass 01:32, 7 November 2007 (UTC) reply
There have been several articles about Zuula in the printed press -- but I believe they have all been in local newspapers in and around the area where Zuula is based (Princeton, NJ), including major papers such as the Newark Star-Ledger, as well as a number of smaller papers. However, all of these articles are now in the "pay-to-view" section of the archives of each paper. You can find the first few sentences of the article about Zuula at the Star-Ledger, for example, by doing a search on the keyword "zuula" at their archives search page, here.
Perhaps the best indication of Zuula's notability, however, is a recent list of search engine resources published by the respected online magazine, Mashable.com. That list includes Zuula, and places Zuula near the top of the list, among some of the best known search engines, such as Google and Yahoo. Here's the Mashable list.
Finally, to get a sense of the extent to which Zuula has been mentioned around the Internet, it's worth just doing a search on the keyword "zuula" on your favorite search engine.
Hope this additional information helps. Look forward to additional feedback about how to improve the Zuula page. Simkovich 16:14, 7 November 2007 (UTC) reply
I hate it when newspapers do that... because it makes it harder to quote them here. However, there's no rule saying that citations have to be accessible online. If you can add the proper reference to the Star-Ledger article (MLA, APA... whatever floats your boat, really), that's all you need. Newspaper articles -- so long as they're from larger publications rather than community papers -- tend to carry more weight around here. Tijuana Brass 17:11, 11 November 2007 (UTC) reply

Could we reassess the need for the notability flag associated with this article? Per the feedback from Tijuana Brass, I've just added to the article a "Further reading" entry that provides the citation for the Feb. 2008 Star-Ledger article about Zuula. Also relevant to the notability issue is the fact that Zuula has been included in a list of significant metasearch engines in a recent article in the San Jose Mercury News, and a similar reference was made to it in a January 2008 article in The Belfast Telegraph. Likewise, Zuula has been mentioned in articles at prominent tech news sites such as Techcrunch. Simkovich 01:10, 22 January 2009 (UTC) reply

Given the external resources that I cite above that mention Zuula, I've gone ahead and deleted the notability flag at the top of the article. -- Simkovich ( talk) 13:20, 3 February 2009 (UTC) reply
