The following information is absolutely false: "But it is a member of the CAF so it can take a part in the Africa Cup of Nations". I'm not even sure that Zanzibar is actually a member of CAF, I'm currently doing some research about this, but if it was, or actually is, it would only be an associate member, just like Réunion island, and not a full member, and only full members can participate to the Africa Cup of Nations. Zanzibar is for a fact a full member of one of the 5 sub-federations of Africa, the CECAFA, and can participate to the local competition, the CECAFA Championship, but has never and for the moment will never be able, like Réunion, to play the Africa Cup of Nations qualification. You may check again, if you want, but I'm 99.9% certain of this... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 113.165.157.87 ( talk) 08:31, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Well, apparently Zanzibar is indeed a member of CAF, and a full member even, but still cannot participate in the Africa Cup of Nations. Sources: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/africa/4330361.stm, " http://www.zanzinet.org/matukio2004.html" From other sources Zanzibar is only an associate member so back to why I indicated in the precedent article: http://www.worldsoccer.com/uncategorized/zanzibars-cup-aim-by-steve-menary Rafa1985 ( talk) 08:44, 1 March 2013 (UTC)Rafa1985
RSSSF has Zanzibar playing in international matches in 1947 and 1948. Both of these are before the currently listed "first international". I'm going to go ahead and update this. Paulkman ( talk) 16:57, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

"The invitation was rescinded in July when FIFA rules forbade two teams from one nation."
Though, some teams from one country are considered their own nations. Such as England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland from UK; Hong Kong & Macau which belong to China. Caribbean territories of France and Netherlands are members of CONCACAF but not FIFA, but then the Oceanian territories of France are full members of FIFA and their own nations for some reason. So the term 'nation' does not mean the same thing than country...
