I expanded this article, but the library is closing and tracking his slaveholdings is proving more difficult than I expected. I could not find him in either the 1830 nor 1840 censuses, the William Lucas in Jefferson County in the latter appears to be a free Black man. Though I am adding the 1850 slave schedule cite, I don't know when I'll be returning to this article in light of other obligations and my cyberbullies. Another complication is disagreement among sources, since the Tyler biography is skeletal and the Bushong volume incorrectly states that his brother lost to John Rogers Cooke, when the new Dictionary of Virginia biography says Cooke narrowly lost. Moreover, the closest genealogy library is closed today.... Jweaver28 ( talk) 23:02, 1 September 2022 (UTC) reply
