Two reasons: 1) the source quoted was a user-generated thread on a climbing forum, which fails Wikipedia's rules on reliable sourcing (see WP:USERGENERATED) and 2) the statement that the routes had been "destroyed" was very much a matter of opinion (there's even dissenting opinion within that forum thread, suggesting that the changes could be largely undone). I know nothing about climbing so I have no idea of the rights or wrongs of the case, but my reversion of your change was purely on editorial/policy grounds.
