The forecast channel is now live in North America as well as Europe and Australia. The Japanese image no longer reflects the look of this channel and should be removed.
When I go to the Forecast Channel on my Wii (Seattle, Washington area), it often has outdated weather information. The "current" weather is as much as 5-6 hours old. And the forcasting is fairly inaccurate as well, calling for snow and 43 degree fahrenheit weather. I actually stopped using the Forcast Channel when the Internet Channel went active and have been using weather.com for betting information. All that being said, I don't want to add that unless I know of a widespread issue of it (I haven't googled it to see). But it seems that it being a feature Nintendo uses in selling the console, it should be notable. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.116.162.162 ( talk) 21:36, 2 January 2007 (UTC).
I've noticed on the Forecast Channel that neither the 5-day forecast nor the UV index are available for locations outside the United Kingdom. When I changed my Location to France in the Wii settings, this then limited my ability to view 5-day forecasts & UV indexes to only cities and towns in France.
Does this affect non-EU/AUS Wiis, and does anybody know if this is going to be the case forever? Liam Plested 00:23, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
It just seems that the Forecast Channel only gets detailed weather information about your home country, only showing the most important cities of the world. It was like that for me and my nephew's Wii, his was set to an american address, so There weren't even any towns avalible in Nova Scotia, but since mine is set to Canada, it had lots of NS data, but nothing in North Carolina -- Phred Levi 21:40, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

After looking throught this article and the Wii#Wii Channels sections, I think that most of the info is repeated in both parts. Since Nintendo has said that there are more channels on the way, the Wii page will get to crowded if they are all mentioned, so it should be streamlined here. As such, I am suggesting that the info in Wii#Wii Channels be trimmed down and any info/pics not already here be moved here. Any thoughts? JQF 18:17, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

The Everybody Votes Channel, launched on February 13, 2007 allows users to vote in simple opinion polls and compare and contrast opinions with others. It is available for free download in the Wii Ware/Wii Software section of the Wii Shop Channel. It features three regional questions as well as one or more global polls; polls close after a set period of time and are replaced by another one. New regional questions are posted every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with Global questions due to be posted twice a month, although to launch the channel two worldwide questions were released in quick succession. [1] Users are initally greeted with the current open polls and have the opportunity to vote with a registered Mii, and can register a total of six different players on each Wii console using Miis. The Channel records all of the votes cast by a player and allows them to compare their own opinions with those of their family.
Within hours of a poll closing, the results of the poll are made available and vote ratios for each question are displayed on the Channel using Miis to represent different votes. A geographic breakdown is shown of which options were most popular in different areas with results displayed on a map and color coding indicating which option received the majority vote in each region. In addition to casting a vote, users can also predict the outcome of the poll and see how often they predict the winning poll option. Users can also suggest their own polls.
That condenses everything relevent in the channel. I'm sure it could be condensed even more. TJ Spyke 22:18, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

I reverted the goofiness about the "floating continents" rather than the globe spinning. Besides not being a notable item for an encyclopedia, it is also incorrect. Spinning the globe does not move the light source. That is why the "day" stays on whatever side you're looking at. To get the effect of "night" and "day" while spinning, you'd need to orbit the camera around the globe rather than spinning the globe itself. Jbanes 01:34, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

wii isn't capable of playing dvds they are coming out with a DVD-playback capable Wii and if technology improves you might notice might be able to download new software
Technically, as far as I know, the Wii does play DVD, just not DVD video. Which means they just need to enable it, which would involve putting a DVD logo on the machine (like on the original Xbox, they had to put the DVD logo on the remote's controller port, it was already capable of playing them. nintendo could probably do this with a DVD channel that displayed teh DVD logo, or a gamecube port expansion, but I doubt they will. quick question- if nintendo wanted wii to have DVD video, would you need to buy an accessory, or could you just use wii system update
Originally, Nintendo said you had to buy an external player, priced at about 20$. But from what I've heard that plan was scrapped, and if any DVD application is released in the future, it might just need a Wii Update to install the correct codecs. I'm not familiar with the Disk Drive, but if it is DVD loadable (probably so considering the fact that video games are probably more powerful than a standard CD) than the correct Codec should make it DVD compatable. But of course, with that comes a whole new interface for the Wii, so maybe it's taking Nintendo so long because they have to work around current software and create a new interface for a DVD mode. But this is all just my own hypothesis. C. Pineda 06:58, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

I felt I should bring this up. I bought a 4GB SD card before the Wii launched in North America, but when I tried the 4GB card, it didn't work at the time. The manual even says cards over 2GB are not supported. After I updated my Wii with the 3.0 update, that same 4GB card now works fine with the Wii. I can save game data, channels, view photos, etc...
I'd add this info to the article myself, but I'd prefere if someone else can re-confirm my results themselves using their updated Wii.
Thanks.

Is the card a 4gig SDHC or not? The problem with SD cards is that various manufacturers made 4gig cards in a non standardized fashion before SDHC became the standard for cards 4 gigs and up. So I'm betting that your card isn't SDHC, but still does happen to work with the wii. Meaning overall most 4 gig cards (because all new ones are SDHC) won't work with the wii, but some of the older ones will. On the other hand, if Nintendo has made an update which supports SDHC, and we can get a good source verifying it, i certainly think thats worth including then. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.98.102.88 ( talk) 03:58, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
It just occurred to me. Why is the Firmware section on the Wii Menu page and not the Wii page? My guess would be that it is because up until the 3.0 update, all the firmware updates have only dealt with the Wii Menu. However, that is no longer the case. The 3.0 update affected other stuff such as banning the use of Freeloaders, changing when the slot light glows, and slight networking changes. As a result, I now feel that this should be moved to the Wii article. Thoughts? Zomic_13 06:49, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Currently the article states: August 27: This update was included with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. It changes the safety warning message displayed at the start of playing Wii games on the Disc Channel.
Can we find a cited source for this? Is the safety warning message just different for MP3 or is it now different for older games as well?

I'm fairly certain that the safety warning message that is displayed when a game is started in the Disc Channel is stored on the disc itself, not the system. Zomic_13 00:16, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Now I know that MP 3 did have an update (it was required to play the game) but I think our best option is to contact Nintendo and find out what update was on MP 3's disc. Neo Samus 05:29, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Is the DVD, CD firmware update vandalism? 69.121.96.140 20:56, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Virtual Console games appear as individual channels after they've been downloaded, do they not? Is it possible to group games under specific sub-heading. For example, can N64 games be catalogued under an N64 channel, and can SNES games be catalogued under a SNES channel? I've heard it's possible, but nothing in this article indicates you can. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.159.97.130 ( talk) 01:34, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
So every game downloaded will take up its own channel. That sucks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.159.97.130 ( talk) 01:55, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
The update included with the Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is the Wii System Version 3.0 update. This update is for people who don't have an Internet connection for their Wii. The update will self-install the first time the game disc is inserted, regardless if the Wii system has the latest update or not. Mmark089 05:24, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
