@ Marshelec Hi, I started a draft for an article on the Waiwhetu aquifer. I think it's notable enough. What do you think? Wainuiomartian ( talk) 04:14, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
I have created a new Wikidata item D:Q118045060 for the Waiwhetu Aquifer. It is rather basic at present, although broadly similar to the items for a few other aquifers that have I checked so far. Marshelec ( talk) 08:57, 29 April 2023 (UTC)
It could be useful to add something about the implications for safety arising from the inherent difference between the protected water catchment areas serving the Te Marua and Wainuiomata water treatment plants, and the extraction of water from an aquifer beneath Lower Hutt city. Water treatment is a vital protection, but it could be argued that the inherent risks are significantly different between protected catchment areas and an artesian aquifer beneath a city that cannot effectively be protected. See page 25 of this source: [1]. Marshelec ( talk) 09:49, 29 April 2023 (UTC)
@ Wainuiomartian:I have just come across a fascinating publication about the history of water supply in Wellington. I am surprised that I have not found this previously. See: [2]. On page 20 there is content about boreholes at Gear Island, and some controversy that surrounded this. There might be newspaper sources about this controversy as well. This could make for an interesting addition to the article, perhaps in a history section. A photo of the Gear Island and Waterloo pumping stations would also be good additions to the Commons Category at least. I will try to get out there and get some photos during the next week. @ Wainuiomartian:. Hi, there was a short piece on national radio today about new work by NIWA on understanding the Waiwhetu Aquifer. [3]. This could be a useful source for expanding this article. Marshelec ( talk) 05:27, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
I created Waiwhetu aquifer to redirect here as a {{ R from miscapitalisation}}. Is it gazetted somewhere with a capital A? — Jon ( talk) 21:02, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
