"This posed many challenges in the early development of commercial electricity, because just about everything was made out of wood or other flammable materials." I recommend this line be changed to remove references to "flammable materials". Nothing in the two citations indicates fire was a problem, and in fact this would be unlikely because Edison used a direct current generator so he could not use high-voltage transmission lines and then step down the voltage to house level with a transformer. Every part of the circuit would have to be at (roughly) the same voltage as was delivered to the houses, and thus not very likely to cause sparks to start a fire unless somehow a piece of metal dropped across both conductors. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.2.163.2 ( talk) 00:21, 30 September 2014 (UTC) reply
