This article has very little to do with Vietnamese boat people who actually arrived in Australia and the social and political impacts of this on Australia, particularly with regard to the impact of non anglo-saxon refugees. This page seems to be about the US only.
An Israeli cargo ship discovered, rather than "crossed paths" with a Vietnamese boat. Was the boat "full of 66 Vietnamese", or was it a boat with 66 Vietnamese? They were out of food and water, OK. But were they "extremely lost and scared"? Sounds rather colloquial. 203.184.41.226 ( talk) 00:23, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
There's some interesting stuff in the final section of this article titled "Vietnamese refugees resettled in Western countries," but it is not referenced -- and I can't confirm the validity of the material from the books and articles I have on hand. Unless somebody can reference this material, I propose to delete this entire section to be replaced by two shorter sections called "Resettlement" and "Repatriation" which I will write and reference. Probably shouldn't redirect here but (as long as it is) there should be a direct link to the Tanka people page from the hatnote. 'Tanka' can actually seem like an epithet and I've certainly mostly seen them referred to simply as Hong Kong/East China's boat people. [Tanka people mentions them living as an ethnicity in Vietnam but that's currently uncited and possibly off.] — LlywelynII 05:08, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

I put a undue weight? – discuss tag on the three paragraphs in this article regarding Israel's action in the Vietnamese boat people crisis. There are two or three dozen countries who were more involved in the boat people crisis than Israel. According to the article, Israel accepted "over 300 Vietnamese refugees" into the country. There were 800,000 boat people, so Israel's participation was .0004 of the total. Thus, if we're going to give 3 paragraphs in this article to Israel, fairness dictates that we give hundreds of paragraphs to the U.S., France, Australia, and Canada -- and tens of paragraphs to countries like Belgium, Sweden, Norway, etc. In other words, the three paragraphs in this article about Israel are vastly out of proportion to Israel participation and contribution to the boat people crisis.
Moreover, there was nothing unique or unusual about an Israel merchant vessels picking up frightened and starving boat people. A multitude of merchant vessels from many countries picked up boat people. Nor is there anything unique or unusual about a ceremony to welcome boat people refugees to their new homes. Israel's actions were hardly out of the ordinary or worthy of being singled out for special mention and praise.
In this overview article, Israel is not significant enough to warrant a mention. It is unfair to the many countries who did far more to help the boat people to single out Israel for attention and effusive praise. Smallchief ( talk) 13:28, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
Having complained previously about undue weight given Israel's token contribution to the boat people crisis, I now have a new complaint that undue weight is given to China in the lead paragraphs of this article. China was a minor recipient of boat people -- except for Hong Kong which was still under British control at the height of the crisis. I'll rectify the problem, unless somebody can come up with a good reason why China deserves such undue attention in the lead paragraphs. Smallchief ( talk) 10:34, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
