Being that Vasil Chekalarov is an ancestor I would like to set the record straight on his ethnicity at being "Bulgarian", it is not how he identified, he referred to himself as Macedonian as does his family that still exists today
If anyone wishes to contact me dsholdas@gmail.com
As many other Bulgarian revolutionaries from Macedonia, Chekalarov was Macedonian and Bulgarian simultaneously. Macedonian as regional belonging and Bulgarian - as ethnic. Some of the sources in the article endorse this.--

WP:DONTLIKE. Check the personal self-identification of Chekalarov cited in his Memoires Чекаларов, Васил. Дневник 1901-1903, written in Bulgarian. It is supported also by a secondary source - Vacalopoulos, Apostolos. Modern history of Macedonia and a primary source - Brailsford, H. N. Macedonia: Its Races and Their Future, . Thanks.

H.N Brailsford didn't say chakalarov said "Cruel but competent general" of the Bulgarian insurgents
he said this instead:Tchakalároff, the cruel but competent general of the Southern insurgents this is even in the source that is quoted

The text is as follows: Although we had said to be there secretly, everyone recognized us, even the Grecoman priest German, asked to come to us. We allowed him to come. This brother has become so hellenised that he started to speak one Bulgarian and two Greek words to us. We raised the question of his nationality, he tried his best to prove to us that we are Greeks! As he could not present the facts that we asked him, he began to develop the story about the Alexander the Great, and stating that we are neither Greeks nor Bulgarians, but Macedonians, without considering that in Macedonia there are also Turks and Jews and many other nationalities. Such a person who does not understand a history and starts preaching to you, this is very funny! We didn't want to get into any more dispute with him, so we ditched him.

By the way, in the Macedonian edition of the diary, which is a translation from the Bulgarian, this passage has been manipulated, as part of the text has been changed, and another part has not been translated and is missing.

Hm, as far as I can see, the author of the foreword of the Macedonian edition of the Diary is Paskal Gilevski, who is a former agent of the
State Security Administration (Yugoslavia).

Is there any secondary source about it? If there is only a primary source about it, perhaps we shouldn't be reaching conclusions ourselves. If it's a notable part of his biography, secondary sources would mention it.
