Not new settlement

About the category "Settlements established in 2009". As far as I unedstand from the article, this is not a new settlement, but just an administrative change. That is, several earlier municipalities has been united into a single town. -- Oddeivind ( talk) 21:21, 11 April 2009 (UTC) reply

Yes, that is correct. The Väståboland municipality is an administrative construction and not a settlement. There were many municipality merges in 2009. The guvernment thinks that big is efficient and gives bonuses to merging municipalities and threatens those that seem too small; the dead lines will result in many merges some years.
The category mentioned seems to consist mostly of Finnish municipalities. There has been no settlement boom in Finland in the last years, so they should probably all be removed.

Catergory naming seems a little odd, but the Finnish municipality mergers of 2009 actually don't seem to be the only administrative constructions in the categories named Settlements established in (year). KasperSu  Talk to me 01:50, 26 October 2009 (UTC) reply
I took a look at the categories and there seem to have been a try to move out those non-settlement establishments to an other hierarchy. I do not know whether work is ongoing or if it was a failure. -- LPfi ( talk) 09:24, 26 October 2009 (UTC) reply

Rename

The municipality has decided to change its name to Pargas ( Pargas has a majority of the population and representatives, the other parts were quit uniformly against the change). If the decision is not overturned, this article should probably be renamed after newyear. As Pargas remains a former municipality and part of this new municipality I suggest leaving it in the present shape and use disambiguation naming and hatnotes. -- LPfi ( talk) 15:18, 25 November 2011 (UTC) reply
