Does anybody know if the picture from univie.ac.at can be used for wikipedia?
Or is there any other (possibly brighter) picture, that could be added to this site.
Is it entirely fair to describe it as "not a full university" has it has separated its medical section? Full university status in the UK does not require a medical school (although most of those that top rankings have one). Is this an Austrian convention? Wee Jimmy 00:41, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Still, it is very complicated to say, for example, that you work at the University of Vienna, when someone asks which university you work at. You can just say something like THE univiersity, because the name “Universität Wien” does not contain any word to contrast it from the other “universities” in Vienna. – Hokanomono ✉ 10:05, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
Was the University founded in 1385 or 1365? Greenshed 11:48, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
In 1365, Rudolf IV sanctioned a deed of foundation for studies to doctoral level in Vienna on the model of the University of Paris. However, Pope Urban V did not ratify the deed to also found a Faculty of Theology, presumably due to pressure exerted by the Emperor who wished to avoid competition to Prague University. In 1384, papal agreement was finally received and Vienna University was extended to a full university, also including the fourth faculty, Theology. The first university building opened in 1385. versity of Pisa was founded in 1343, and that of Vienna in 1365. Why is it mentioned that the University of Vienna is the oldest in central europe?
A gravestone, probably in Vienna's Zentralfriedhof, describes the deceased as "PROFESSOR AN DER WIENER UNIVERSITAT 1880 - 1912" – would this refer to the University of Vienna or need I seek further confirmation? -- Thanks, Deborahjay 12:04, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
Please provide feedback on the new structure. A few statements were removed that did not fit. Check the edit history for more details. -- Otheus 21:54, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
I think this is done, except I can't make the last paragraph of 'Library History' work properly.
No word about the years 1938-1945. Xx236 ( talk) 13:43, 14 December 2007 (UTC) A section could be added that Moritz Schlick was murdered in the univeristy (at the "Philosophen Stiege"). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.115.174.219 ( talk) 20:12, 12 June 2009 (UTC) 'in 1938 the University of Vienna was reformed under political aspects and a huge number of teachers and students were dismissed for political and "racial" reasons' - rather an undersatatement. For a university this old, it's surprising that the history section is so short. The history of the library is almost as long as the history of the whole university! If anyone can expand that section or link to references that include more historical information (in any language), that would be highly beneficial. - Mabeenot ( talk) 03:46, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
The university has since 2012 or 2013 published some ads using the slogan „Neu. Seit 1365“ (see „Neu seit 1365“: Leistungsbericht und Wissensbilanz der Universität Wien 2012), but are there any sources that say this is the motto of the school? I don’t think so. This year, they use another slogan: „Wir stellen die Fragen“ (see Theresa Dirtl: Henne oder Ei?). The seal of the university says “s. sapientiae studii viennensis”. If the school has a motto at all, it might be that. -- Babel fish ( talk) 08:13, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
