Good catch. Someone who is better with tables than I should put him in the table between
John T. Deweese and
Sion H. Rogers. Manning served just the last few months of the 41st Congress, after Deweese resigned. Manning did not run for the seat in the general election. See also
details of the special election here. It was actually the 2nd special election for the 4th district that year, and the 3rd election in total. After Deweese resigned, the special election to fill out the remainder of the term was also held at the same time as the general election, which was in August in North Carolina at the time. But the winner of the special election, Robert B. Gilliam, died after winning, so a second special election had to be held in November. Don't ask me why the winner of the recent general election -- Sion H. Rogers -- didn't run in the second special election. Instead, Democrat (officially called "Conservatives" at the time in NC politics) Manning defeated Republican
Joseph W. Holden.

113th Congress - update ready
Hello,
I've updated the chart of Congressmen for the new Congress in January. It's on
my sandbox. The first chart assumes that Mike McIntyre will be re-elected in NC-7. Chart 2 assumes that he will lose to his GOP challenger. NC-7 is so close, it seems a
recount could happen. - Thanks, Hoshie
