A fact from United States Army Remount Service appeared on Wikipedia's
Main Page in the Did you know column on 29 June 2012 (
check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
The Remount Service wasn't actually a branch of service. It was part of the Quartermaster Corps, and most officers were actually assigned to either that branch or cavalry. We may want to consider redoing the category here.

The catch is that the Remount Service was part of the Quartermaster Corps, so it's a "sub-branch" of a "branch." It wasn't separate from it. It might be better to put it in Quartermasters, but I'm obviously open to other options.

Looks good to me! The Remount Service is tricky because, in addition to it being part of the Quartermaster Corps, there was a civilian "axillary" (the Remount Association) that handled some of the stallion registration and breeding coordination. This looks to be a good compromise category.

I have copies of the stud lists for the American Remount Association from 1921, 1923, 1927, 1928, 1930, 1931, 1934, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945, 1946. Also some copies of various articles on the Remount in various horse mags from the 1920s through the 1950s.

Very nice! I used to have access to that stuff, but a change of jobs and states changed that. Maybe you can add some stuff from those, mainly in regard to the breeds used?
