How is unique visitor different from unique user? The difference needs to be spelled out, or the articles need to be merged. -- Mrs Scarborough 20:18, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
This is an important topic, but a weak article. It spells out - accurately - the weaknesses of UU as a measure, but does not mention its strengths, when compared to even more unreliable metrics such as Page view, and provides no reference to Web analytics, which could arguably absorb both articles. I would improve it myself, but I don't have the technical knowledge ... and would probably make it worse! Heenan73 ( talk) 14:10, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on
Unique user. Please take a moment to review
my edit. If necessary, add {{

after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{

to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

What does "unique" add to the definition of a unique user? Is there a difference between a user and a unique user? Is there such a thing as a non-unique user?
Is "unique users" not a synonym of Active users, at least when defined in the way this article describes it? I recognise that unique visitors is a distinct term as visitor isn't the same as a user or a person, but what's the difference between "unique users" and Active users?
If there's none, probably would be best to remove redundant content related to Active users from this article and move it to Unique visitors. PaulT2022 ( talk) 03:10, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
An alternative option would be to rewrite the article to follow the Cambridge Dictionary source recently added in Special:Diff/1182547727 and treat unique user as a synonym of unique visitor (and thus being different from Active user).
I'm mainly concerned that "unique user" doesn't have a recognised meaning that would be distinct from both "unique visitor" and "active user" and this article shouldn't hint otherwise. PaulT2022 ( talk) 03:25, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
