Several edits over the years have changed the caption for the Dundee gown to a St Andrew's gown. While the colouring in the image is poor, it is clearly a blue yoke rather than maroon. And, as the uploader of the original photograph, I can certainly assure contributors of the accuracy of the caption. -- Breadandcheese ( talk) 01:42, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

In the summer, you often see Japanese tourists getting their cameras out in the hope of catching some St Andrews students strolling through in their striking red undergraduate gowns. Apparently they are such a bright red as this was originally to deter students from entering brothels!
The wording takes this as fact when even the student qualified it with 'apparently' . Suggest the editor find a better source. Rgds, -- Bill Reid | Talk 16:14, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
