@ Apaugasma: I just found this reference [1] say that Umar was paired with Itban ibn Malik, not Ibn Maslamah. Other reference said that Ibn Maslama was paired with Abu Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah. Can you remove or change information here? ▪︎ Fazoffic ( ʖ╎ᓵᔑ∷ᔑ) 09:11, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

You'll find two stories about Umar common on the web.
The first is that he ordered the destruction of the Great Library of Alexandria, based on prejudice against all books that weren't the Quran. This story is implausible for a bunch of reasons; it'd be nice to see it properly debunked here.
The second story touchingly contradicts religious bigotry of the first: supposedly Umar made a point of not turning the Church of the Holy Sepulchre into a mosque. Mentioned in that article, worth expanding on here. Isaac Rabinovitch ( talk) 21:01, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
