Presumably the ship was named for the Rendova Island and its PT base during World War II. Looking for a source for this though. —  MrDolomite •  Talk 16:19, 17 August 2010 (UTC) reply

After a long time, here is a source confirming it: https://www.navsource.org/archives/03/0311427.pdf -- GDK ( talk) 08:45, 16 October 2022 (UTC) reply

Never named Willamette

Contrary to the text, the ship was not "completed as Willamette". This is likely a misreading as the ship was completed "completed at Willamette Iron and Steel Works" (see e.g. https://www.navsource.org/archives/03/0311427.pdf) -- GDK ( talk) 09:18, 16 October 2022 (UTC) reply

Also the name "Willamette" was also not in the originally cited source. -- GDK ( talk) 13:41, 16 October 2022 (UTC) reply
