I actually prefer the previous photo to the new one. The new one is very high resolution, but the old one shows the ship better. I think the infobox should be headed with the image that looks best at 300px. TomTheHand ( talk) 04:42, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Anyone thing the fact that the ship is a playable area in four different Battlefield 2 + expansions maps is relevant? It's not even hinted here.

Nickname: "The Iron Gator", "Steaming Deuce" is the ONLY nicknames that are correct. - Plankowners of USS Essex
FOR ANYONE WHO IS WONDERING WHO ADDED THE IN POPULAR CULTURE SECTION TO THE MAIN USS ESSEX (LHD-2) PAGE: It was me who added In popular culture to this page. Why did I add it? I added it because USS Essex (LHD-2) appears in in Battlefield 2, Battlefield Play4Free, Battlefield 3, and Battlefield 4. This page didn't have a In Popular Culture section before, so I added one. Now that I see that it has been removed from the page, I am heartbroken. It took me a while to add the In Popular Culture section. Everyone who has read this article after I added the In Popular Culture section, has learned about the real world ship (not just about the ship in the video game). I answer these questions when adding to an article: Is it a real thing? Is it fact or fiction/ fake? What game or games does it appear in?
Some things in video games are fiction, Right? Thats what some believe but, actually some things in videos games are based on real things, such as in Battlefield, or the Call of Duty games from 2003-2010/12 and some features in the newer Call of Duty games are based on real live things such as the Exo-suits in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. But in real life exosuits are designed to assist the wearer by boosting their strength and endurance. Also they help soldiers carry heavy loads both in and out of combat. If you take the time to research, you'll be surprised by how many things in video games are in real, and how many things aren't real.

"Although Essex's bow had jammed, the investigation determined that better leadership by Litchfield could have prevented the collision". Huh ? How does a ship's bow "jam" ? Rcbutcher ( talk) 04:28, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

USS Essex (LHD-2) is in the video game Battlefield 2, 3, and 4. The is even a page on the Battlefield wikia about the USS Essex (LHD-2). I just think that the"In Popular Culture" section should be on the page. FPS James Bond 007 ( talk) 05:11, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
"In popular culture" sections should be avoided unless the subject has had a well-cited and notable impact on popular culture. Any popular culture reference being considered for inclusion must be attributed to a reliable secondary source for the article topic. Items meeting these requirements should typically be worked into the text of the article; a separate section for popular culture items, and in particular the following, should be avoided:...
