Shri Yog Vedant Seva Samiti

Deleted reference to Shri Yog Vedant Seva Samiti from the article. It is not clear from a Google search who this is other than someone associate with Asaram. If the article is going to mention him, it should do a better job of explaining who he is. He is only mentioned in one of four sources as the organizer of a festival at the Ashram. -- Klaun ( talk) 23:33, 5 January 2018 (UTC) reply

Klaun, you are addressing "Shri Yog Vedant Seva Samiti" as "he". Probably you are not aware that it's the name of a religious organization, it's not a person. Also, the references are specifying that the celebration is being organized by this Samiti in various places. Here are the references from the famous newspaper DainikBhaskar [5] which mention about this: [6] [7] [8] Since the content of these links is in Hindi language and if you don't know Hindi, you can use Google Translate to verify the same. And Google Search is showing many results about this Samiti. Refer the google search link: [9] Amicable always ( talk) 09:26, 6 January 2018 (UTC) reply
Thanks for the background. However, it actually demonstrates my point. The casual reader is not going to have any idea what "Shri Yog Vedant Seva Samiti". As I mentioned above, my objection to having the mention of "Shri Yog Vedant Seva Samiti" is not that it is unreferenced, it's that to a casual reader it's a meaningless statement. If it is included in the article, there needs to be some context as to what it is since it is not going to be common knowledge. If it is notable beyond the context of this festival, perhaps it should have its own article, or maybe a section of the Asaram article since I only see it mentioned in relation to Asaram context by my (limited) search on Google. So to reiterate, content objection is not about being unreferenced, but that the statement is devoid of meaning to the casual reader. -- Klaun ( talk) 16:29, 6 January 2018 (UTC) reply

Discussion of Tulsi (the plant)

Note this article is not the right place for info on Tulsi. The plant has an entire article of its own. Please add content about the plant there and not here. -- Klaun ( talk) 16:32, 6 January 2018 (UTC) reply

Tulsi page tells about the plant. And this page is about the festival which is celebrated by Hindus and the rituals which Hindus follow on 25th December. And hence, it's important to mention in this Tulsi Pujan Diwas article that "why" Hindus worship this plant and it's because of the religious significance and health-related benefits of this plant which are in accordance with Ayurveda. Please note that the plant has article of its own but this article is regarding a festival - "Tulsi Pujan Diwas" Amicable always ( talk) 17:22, 6 January 2018 (UTC) reply
It's significance to Hindus also has its own page: Tulsi in Hinduism. I think Tulsi content is fine here provided it is specifically as it relates to this festival and not general content which should go at Ocimum tenuiflorum or content related to its significance to Hindus generally which should go at Tulsi in Hinduism. Referenced and sourced content that is strictly about Tulsi as it relates to this festival could go here. Alternately, perhaps this article should be merged with Tulsi in Hinduism. -- Klaun ( talk) 17:32, 6 January 2018 (UTC) reply
Tulsi in Hinduism is about the significance of Tulsi in Hinduism and this page is regarding a different festival - "Tulsi Pujan Diwas". Hence they cannot be merged. Let me explain you by giving an example: The way Rama is about Lord Rama in Hinduism and page Rama_Navami is about the festival which is celebrated in Hinduism. Similarly, Tulsi is considered a goddess in Hinduism and page [Tulsi Pujan Diwas]] is about a festival in which it is worshipped. Now both Rama and Rama_Navami have content about the importance of Lord Rama, so obviously you can ask people to remove the content about Lord Rama from Rama_Navami. Similarly, content about Tulsi is necessary for [Tulsi Pujan Diwas]]. Amicable always ( talk) 17:57, 6 January 2018 (UTC) reply
This festival is part of the larger topic of Tulsi in Hinduism which already has a section on several festivals related to Tulsi. The question is whether the topic of this article is notable enough, has enough reliable sources, and large enough subject to warrant an article. My suggestion that a a merge might be beneficial was because there seems to be trouble finding enough content that is on subject for this article to make it larger. Much of the suggested content has heavily overlapped on the subject of other articles. This leads to redundant and conflicting information in different parts of Wikipedia, and should be avoided per WP:CFORK. In any case, I am not proposing a merge... Just that WP:RS content be added that doesn't overlap on other articles. -- Klaun ( talk) 18:24, 6 January 2018 (UTC) reply
Yes the article is notable enough and none of the information in this article is conflicting, and enough reliable sources are there, BBC, Dainik Bhaskar, Zee News are just a few examples of "reliable" news sources which have published articles on this Festival. And there are many other websites which specify about this article and that can be found by a simple Google Search. Amicable always ( talk) 04:18, 7 January 2018 (UTC) reply
The content added into the article is not about the festival. It is about the plant. Adding that to the separate article on the plant would be better. If it is about the plant as it relates to Hinduism, there is an article just on that subject. Content here should be about the festival not the plant. Also, if there is a dispute about the content...consensus should be reached before editing the article. -- Klaun ( talk) 17:21, 7 January 2018 (UTC) reply

User:SpacemanSpiff This festival is celebrated on 25th December all over India by Hindus. Don't you think it was your responsibility to at least discuss on the talk page. After all you deleted the well-referenced content. It is about a well-known festival which is celebrated on 25th December and thus we need to have a separate page as Tulsi in Hinduism is not at all about this particular festival. Although Asaram Bapu started this initiative now it is widely accepted by Hindus all over India as proved by references. And hence this festival finds a place on Wiki. Let me give you few examples: 1- Alamo_Christian_Foundation was founded by Tony Alamo who was sentenced to 150 years in federal prison for sex. But still that page exists on Wiki. 2- Shoko Asahara was founded by Shoko Asahara who was sentenced to death by hanging under Japanese law. But still that page exists on Wiki. 3- Lord Our Righteousness Church was founded by Wayne Bent who was sentenced to 18 years. But still that page exists on Wiki. 4- Christian Heritage New Zealand was founded by Graham Capill who was sentenced to nine-year imprisonment term in 2005 after multiple charges of child sexual abuse against girls younger than twelve. But still that page exists on Wiki. 5- Creativity Movement was founded by Matthew F. Hale who was sentenced to a 40-year prison term for soliciting an undercover FBI informant to kill a federal judge. But still that page exists on Wiki. And many more... So please try to understand that a good initiative "can" be started by a person who was convicted(case is still in high court and others involved in case got clean chit too). And Tulsi Pujan Diwas is one such initiative, and hence it's widely accepted by Indians. Amicable always ( talk) 02:35, 5 December 2019 (UTC) reply
