What's the story behind the name? If unknown or unsure, does anyone have any notable citable speculation on the connection between trawlers and the Trawler Spaniel? What about an entymological citation?
It's quite interesting and mysterious to me. It should be the job of this article, IMHO, to at the very minimum dispell any assumption by the reader that they were one used on Trawlers. As water spaniels, wouldn't there have had to have been a small, but not "toy", Trawler Spaniel, that preceded this breed? One that perhaps that would serve aboard a trawler in some way, perhaps not a cargo trawler as a ratter, terriers would have served better in that role, or as a companion dog, but what about some kind of waterfowl hunting trawler, on which blinds manned with hunters might have been floated out towards a resting flock, say, a small dog one could keep quiet within the blind, and then sent out to pick up the quarry and return it to the trawler?
