Better representative pictures

The pictures that have been uploaded onto this wiki page to show Tom's face always seem bad quality and awkward. The last one was an extremely blurry picture from an angle! This current one is okay but there's absolutely better photos available for this wiki to use and I think should be used? Vlkettoandrye ( talk) 00:53, 14 September 2022 (UTC) reply

This current image that you refer to is likely to be deleted as a copyright violation (a still uploaded by a novice from a movie); this has been the case all along, fans want their hero to be seen in a better light, but there were/are no images that are free to use. I only became aware of him due to his school, but whenever I've seen him he's always screaming, gurning and laughing? Am I being unfair? If you know of images that can be used please show the links here. I can now see you are a novice so perhaps you don't understand copyright law well enough?-- Rocknrollmancer ( talk) 01:35, 14 September 2022 (UTC) reply

  • For anyone interested, the image of Simons on stage was discussed at c:Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Dream SMP in July 2022. I think I added a caption in the article infobox to the effect that it was part of a stage presentation, but this was soon deleted/changed. This is all fanzone stuff, and too much down-time is being lost by new editors wanting to weigh-in.-- Rocknrollmancer ( talk) 11:48, 14 September 2022 (UTC) reply

New infobox image

File:Screenshot 2022-09-13 5.20.14 PM.png

The new infobox image is 100% a copyright violation, as it comes from this video (uploaded to Simons' vlog channel, Tom Simons) which is not released under Creative Commons.

Due to this, should we even keep it on the page before it gets deleted? It would make sense to just have the previous image here, so that it doesn't have to have an extra disclaimer about "likely to be deleted". The previous image was recently chosen to be Kept after this discussion, and it is the best copyright free image we have now.

Should we just change the image back to the previous one? Strugglehouse ( talk) 19:06, 14 September 2022 (UTC) reply

Whilst the caption remains templated, it gives opportunity for these novice editors to become aware that things are 'wrong'. All of these fanzone changes have been taking place at Joseph Quinn, similarly, with copied images being uploaded and date-of-birth being warred over. The more the changes are reverted, new registrations come along and do the same again, over and over. I think it's time for extended protection here instead of semi protection which would stop inexperienced editors from making changes.-- Rocknrollmancer ( talk) 20:03, 14 September 2022 (UTC) reply
@Rocknrollmancer Ok, that makes sense, thank you. Maybe it is time for extended protection, or we could add a note saying not to change the image unless it is 100% copyright-free/creative commons. Strugglehouse ( talk) 20:25, 14 September 2022 (UTC) reply

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. @ Ayanoaishi3652: -- Ferien ( talk) 15:37, 23 September 2022 (UTC) reply
