Miller sees Frodo's encounter with the Barrow-wight similarly, as another "exercise in temporal archaeology." Here, the time visited is the Second Age, at the moment when the Witch-King of Angmar (the leader of the Nazgûl) attacks from his fortress of Carn Dûm and defeats the people who lived around what became the Barrow-downs.

The thing is that while I don't doubt the main point which is that this is Time-Travel, it is somewhat less spectaculously from the Third Age to the Third Age. The time is clearly that of the fight of the Northern-Dunedain kingdoms against the Witch-King; and that was in the Third Age. Whatever age it is argued to be, the point here is that we have a reliable literary source who said what is stated. If another RS states in a way that we can cite that Miller got it wrong, we can add that. Chiswick Chap ( talk) 19:34, 30 January 2024 (UTC) reply
