Hi, I’m a descendant of Thomas. The surname is Matteson.
Thomas Matteson Jr. was the early settler in Genoa, along with his brother Stephen Matteson. He (Thomas Jr) was a postmaster in Hartsgrove, Ashtabula, Ohio before moving here. Thomas Jr was the postmaster.
His father, Thomas Matteson Sr, was alleged to have served in the Revolutionary War, but was denied a pension for lack of proof of service. Thomas Sr was born in 1756, so he was 86 in 1840- not the postmaster.
