The newspaper biography of 1899 (see references) makes no mention of any connection to geology. Is this article confusing two individuals with the same name? --

Yes - I've removed the part you refer to, which related to Thomas Jamieson b. 11 Sept 1848, d. 3 May 1924, an analytical chemist in Aberdeen. The newspaper article is incorrect. I traced both Jamiesons in the 1891 census and other documents.
