This paper was first published by Larry Smeets (1980) Memories of St Hubert and was printed by the Whitewood Herald. I requested and received permission from Larry to copy this material here. -- ggatin ( talk) 04:23, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
I am a descendant of the early settlers that established the mission of St Hubert. My grandmother Bernadette Gatin was the niece of Fr. Boutin who established the mission. My father, Yvon Gatin leased la Rolanderie from Albert Poncelet and lived there in the mid 1950's. I was born in 1955 and lived my first year of life in the house at la Rolanderie. I grew up in the area when St Hubert Mission was still a thriving community, anchored by the church and the Joan of Arc home for invalids that operated in the community.
Love to hear more from people interested in the history and stories of people from the area.
