Merge proposal of Hughes Electronics

The Hughes article lacks any credible sources. The company is currently owned by DirectTV Group. The hughes article should be condensed down to the facts and merged here. Alan.ca 19:19, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

I've done quite a bit of referencing in the past two days and the more I think about, the more I think Hughes Electronics should be merged into Hughes Aircraft. Hughes Electronics (I think) was more a brand name than an actual company - it was created as a subsidiary of GM (GM Hughes Electronics) to hold Hughes Aircraft and subsidiaries. Raytheon bought the defense businesses in 1997 and again it was Hughes Aircraft that was the main part of that deal. After this Hughes Electronics was a sat and comms business and it is this history which should be picked up on DirecTV article. Let me work on it. Mark83 14:47, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Hughes Electronics (DirecTV Group)

Hello my name is Anthony, and I have been doing some changes and improvements to the Hughes areas.

For the DirecTV Group I added the following history,

Hughes Electronics was formed in 1985 when Hughes Aircraft was sold by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to GM for $ 5.2 billion. General Motors merged Hughes Aircraft with its Delco Electronics unit to form Hughes Electronics. The group then consisted of: Delco Electronics Corporation, Hughes Aircraft Company, Hughes Space & Communications Company, Hughes Network Systems, and DirecTV

Since Hughes Electronics Corporation page no longer exists and was merged into DirecTV Group and Hughes Aircraft - the above seemed approprate to me to put into the DirecTV Group page.

Hello,

I am thanking publicly whoever organized the DirecTV Group page. Thanks that looks really nice and clean.

Fair use rationale for Image:DTVGroup.jpg

Image:DTVGroup.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot 22:52, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
