I put in new headlines and reorganised the article a bit, but I dunno if I should remove the cleanup tag or not. The page needs a song info box, I think...but I wouldn't know how to put one of those up. -- Gromreaper 03:56, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
I tossed in an infobox, but I know very little about the single, so I couldn't add much. I'd appreciate anything anyone can add in.
Also, we can't have the lyrics there like we did. The Son Of Nothing 15:49, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

According to wikipedia's own website this is, in fact, a country song.
See Charlie_Daniels:
"Daniels won the Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance in 1979 for "The Devil Went Down to Georgia", which reached #3 on the charts."
In Stephen Lynch's song "Beelz" (about a flamboyant version of Satan) he makes a joke stating that the devil "would never be caught dead in Georgia" (after imitating the Charlie Daniels Band briefly) This isn't really a parody, and i'm not nearly good enough at editing wikipedia to add it in a relevent section.
Do we really need a spoiler warning? It's a song for crying out loud. Ungovernable Force Got something to say? 06:31, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
This song was written by Travis Meyer http://www.drdemento.com/playlists/drd98.0815.html when he was at WBYR-FM.
Should there not be some reference to the song being A) Used in the movie Coyote Ugly (film) as the main bar song, but more importantly that this is one song that every Coyote Ugly Saloon bar uses for the girls to get on the bar and do their routine? I think it's worthy of the recognition. Don't you?? Timclare (talk) (sign here) 02:28, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
Image:MillionMileReflections.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I've added the examplefarm template to the header as I believe it more concisely addresses the problem of having too many adaptations/covers/parodies than the trivia tags did. I've also removed the comments about Guitar Hero since they seem overly pedantic. We can add some of those back later if that particular problem rears its head again. -- Mwalimu59 ( talk) 17:20, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Has there been any significant progress on this discussion since February? This article is a mess. There isn't even consistency among the headings (the covers are all mixed with cultural uses). I'm going to be a bit WP:BOLD and clean it up. Movingboxes ( talk) 11:24, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
Okay, please take a look and let me know what you think. People might have questions about removing the Tenacious D stuff. My reasoning was that the devil vs. human motif isn't all that uncommon and I don't feel that "Tribute" is directly inspired by the song (and Tenacious D haven't, to my knowledge, said that it is. I also trimmed the level of detail on some things, reasoning we don't need to know how the various battles worked out on, say, Futurama or Robot Chicken. Again, I'm not trying to come take over the article, but just get things going towards improvement with the end goal of a better article. Movingboxes ( talk) 11:45, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
I've heard a song on the radio called "Manuel Went Down to Georgia," a parody cover likening the devil to illegal immigration, and I think it deserves a mention here. However, I wasn't able to find any additional information, such as who made it, so I don't know if it can go in. Dukeofwulf ( talk) 17:27, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
It's growing and taking on a life of its own again...now as long as the whole rest of the article. Do we really need to include every non-notable song by non-notable musician who has made reference of this original? I propose as a minimum guideline for inclusion that there must be notability, as demonstrated by bluelink, for the artist. If a band isn't verfiably notable at all, it's not notable for its use of TDWDtG either. Thoughts? DMacks ( talk) 20:59, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
There is a version of the song called "The Devil Came Up to Michigan" by KMC crew which might be a parody or an homage, or just a version. Not sure how to work it into the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.119.128.3 ( talk) 23:07, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
The Devil Came up to Michigan is a glaring omission from the cover section. This cover (with modified lyrics) brought the song into an entirely new genre, new audience and new decade which is much more notable then covers which simply redo the original country style. I don't know anything about the band but found it here.

I posted a link earlier, which got reverted; [1] I won't restore it, but it's a cover under a standard mechanical license afaik (I remember the performer mentioned that he uploads his stuff through DistroKid which handles that). I put it on the talk page because I thought the usual standard for including in the article was a secondary source showing notability, which might show up through web searches (now or later) and I haven't tried to research it to any extent. Looking at the existing cover list, though, several are similar direct youtube links. So I'm inclined to add this one: it's an all-instrumental bass-focused cover that's very listenable. I'm not aware of a concept of a verified youtube channel and I don't see any indication that the existing ones are verified. I just don't see any reason to suspect a copyright issue here. 2602:24A:DE47:BB20:50DE:F402:42A6:A17D ( talk) 06:07, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
