Quote on Celestial Avatar Spirit Aang: "This colossal figure represents Aang's mastery of the Avatar State. Aang encounters this giant version of himself in space during his meditation on the seventh chakra (pure cosmic energy.) The first time he meditates, (in 2.19) Aang has a vision of Katara in trouble and has to abandon his celestial twin. The second time he meditates, (in 2.20) Aang is interrupted when Azula shoots him with lightning. In both cases, Aang is unable to clear the chakra and master the Avatar State."
This is precisely what I've been saying ever since the season finale. And now the official website confirms it. Someone please edit this page (and the Aang page) so that it's more accurate. Do you guys think there's gonna be a 4th book. Do you think Zuko has a bigger plan in mind for Azula? Boywonder18 05:35, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
IS ZUKO EVIL NOW????
Will Ang still have the power of all past avatars? His body may be revived by Katara, but what about all his spirits?
My friend, shes really into this show, I no nothing about it, but w/e...she thinks that Zuko will become an ally to the avatar and teach him firebending...or finish what training another fire dude started. But no! You'll probly find another "NO THIS CANT HAPPEN BECAUSE OF THAT...AND THIS!" Boo
hehe, "hopeful fangirlism" thats kinda funny...How can you be a fangirl ofan anime charrie? No offense, Zuko kicks @zz (hope i dont get in trouble for that), but HOW? I'm curious...Cuz I know Inuyasha fangirls too
I did hear from theavatarportal.com that Book 3: Fire will be aired on March. I don't know if it's true though.
Evidence that Zuko is NOT faking it:
1. Zuko considers attacking Azula for a moment before attacking Aang after she gives him a very fierce look; this may mean that he still wasn’t sure what he was going to do before he got there.
2. Zuko tells Katara that he HAS changed, but maybe not in the way that she had thought.
3. The last shot of Zuko’s face that we saw before he arrived at the battle was on the scarred side of his face, looking angry; this may indicate his decision.
4. In his dream in “The Earth King”, Zuko listens to Azula before he listens to Iroh. She tells him to rest, and his eyes almost close (in other words, he was almost lost completely) before Iroh stops him; the Azula-dragon then attacks Zuko some moments later. This may mean that Zuko really HAS betrayed them, but he will be stopped before he completely loses himself, and Azula will double-cross him.
5. It was demonstrated in “The Cave of Two Lovers” and “The Tales of Ba Sing Se: The Tale of Zuko” that Zuko, although he can carry on a guise once it’s been established, cannot come up with a believable lie on the spur of the moment; he obviously appears guilty at the end of Crossroads, which, because he is such a bad liar/actor, suggests that the emotion was legitimate.
6. Iroh looks at Zuko with utter shame; this may or may not be real, however, as Iroh, unlike Zuko, has proven a good actor after fooling Zhao in the season 1 finale.
7. Azula’s manipulative powers are highly shown in the finale (ex. She was able to completely take control of the Dai Li from Long Feng in less than a day). This may mean that she really DID get to Zuko after all, even though he starts to realize later that he’s been duped.
8. Zuko is not particularly well known for thinking plans through; he may have genuinely betrayed them, without considering the dire consequences it would have.
Evidence that Zuko IS faking it:
1. Zuko was alone with his Uncle after Azula left, which may mean that Iroh had further time to win his nephew back.
2. Zuko was alone with Iroh before they joined the battle, and the old man escaped the crystals SOMEHOW. We know Firebending can break crystal, but we don’t know if Iroh could Firebend proficiently from that position; this may mean Zuko freed him.
3. Zuko considered attacking Azula before he attacked Aang; this may mean that he was going to go against his Uncle’s plan of faking betrayal, but then went along with it in the end.
4. When we see the shot of Azula smiling at Zuko’s decision, Katara is visible in the background; the Waterbender looks utterly shocked at the prince’s choice.
5. Zuko attacks Aang first; we know he still harbors a lot of anger toward Aang, but he may consider Katara his friend, which is why he didn’t initially attack her.
6. When Zuko fought Katara, he told her that he HAD changed, perhaps trying to get across to her that he hadn’t really betrayed them.
7. Although he put a hurtin’ on Aang, Zuko never landed a direct substantial blow to Katara; even though he still harbors a lot of anger toward Aang, Zuko may have considered Katara his friend, which is why he didn’t hurt her, even though he might have had the opportunity. Any direct damage, if any, that was done to Katara was done by Azula.
8. The battle was interrupted by the Dai Li, which Zuko didn’t anticipate; it’s difficult to tell what might have happened had the Earthbenders not arrived.
Ugh. The utter indecisiveness makes me sick, and I just wish season 3 could get here (I shouldn't be so impatient.). Personally, what I think the most likely explanation is that Zuko really DID betray them, but it was a stupid, spur-of-the-moment decision, caused mostly by Azula’s manipulative powers; he will realize this soon, probably within the first few episodes of season three, and turn against Azula, before she has the chance to turn on him. (Don’t ask my how he’ll free Iroh, or regain the gaang’s trust, cause I really don’t know for sure.) I think it was made clear that Zuko’s decision probably wasn’t final. And for those of you out there who STILL trust nick.com, even though it’s been proven to not be completely reliable, it says in the Crossroads episode summary that Zuko’s expression at the end of the episode suggests that he doubts whether he did the right thing. *shrug * Ah, well. All will be made clear in season 3, I suppose. 71.164.58.107 01:01, 18 January 2007 (UTC)Arowen Half-Elven
Hardly important at all. First one is just another skill, no need to mark the first time every skill is used. 2 and 3, all the characters get better through the show, goes on the character's articles if anywhere. Fourth, just a new skill, goes on Firebender.-- Fyre2387 ( talk • contribs) 05:44, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, but first times the major skills are used. I think propeling yourself like a jet using firebending is importent enough to be on the notes, seeing as how they weren't mentioned in the main article.
Going by this logic, any mention of bending lightning or redirecting it should be removed from any notes also, seeing as they are "only skills".
Lightning Bending plays a major plot point in the show. This isn't Naruto or DBZ or Inuyasha. New bending moves don't mean anything special outside the bending page they represent. If we were to put each new move in each episode notes section we would need to go through all the episodes and add every single new manuever in order to be consistant. It's just not necessary for this episode. It's like those notes about when Katara has let her hair down, it's not important. H2P ( Yell at me for what I've done) 06:05, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
I've requested full protection, this is getting out of hand. Everybody, and I do mean EVERYbody, needs to read over WP:3RR again.-- Fyre2387 ( talk • contribs) 06:09, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
TheWP:3RR is pretty useless anyway. At least to me, being an anon user who can change her IP in a matter of seconds.
They're imporent because it shows a certain skill that has neer been seen before and never thought to have been possible. Propeling yourself as a jet is importent enough to me to be on the notes.
Yes, it could go there, but it happened first in this episode and should be noted. Besides, I really don't see the big deal in having it in the notes section. People will see and be informed, is it that bad it's up there? You group of fanboys are a bunch of over zealous fanatics.
You don't understand why they are needed here and no amount of me talking to you will change your mind. However, if you are willing to sacrifice sleep, feel free to keep putting them up there. The road goes both ways buddy. And the fact that you imply that you would sacrifice sleep just to prove me point wrong is creepy infact. Sacrificing sleep just to prove your point (which is very small, these are just notes bud) just shows that you are the epitome of nerd and loser. Really, this is just an issue about small information not bieng importent enough by your standards. Really, is it that bad to have them up there, I mean they are informing people of interesitng facts. I think they are relevant enough to stay.
You know what guys, you both need to stop. Now. Edit warring is a bad thing, period. As of now, we all have inflamed tempers, and no good comes from that. Let's just let it be for now, get more editors input, and settle this, rather than just reverting warring until somebody falls over from exhaustion.-- Fyre2387 ( talk • contribs) 06:32, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
So very sad on what a show can do to people.
I made a note about this, but it was deleted, and no reason was given here, so I will suggest it here. I think a note should be made that this is the second season finale to end with a character expressing shame towards Zuko. Of course, Iroh was ashamed, but in Book I, Zhao expressed shame at the fact that Zuko offered to help him. What are you all's thoughts? Aang-kai 20:19, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Is zuko evil now?
Aang was definitely struck by lightning on the back and exits on the foot. His wound in the back are much larger than the burn marks on the foot and this was where Katara placed the oasis water.
We don't know lightning works in these situations, maybe exit wounds are larger than entrance wounds (That's how it is with bullets). After all, whenever you see a character shoot lightning it expands as it travels, from a small dot at their fingertips to a wide burst of electricity.
Besides, the back is a much more vital area, that's right where the heart, lungs, and all the other organs are. Putting water on the back might have just been because that's where the lethal damage occured JBK405 17:34, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
If you play the scene again, you definitely can see that the back was hit and not the foot. You can see it through Azula's eyeballs and before the background turned black.
If that's true, then I've no more objections. JBK405 18:38, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm downloading it currently, I'll help confirm it. It makes sense for the back mainly because it's a bigger target area. Anyone else see parallels between Azula's taking out of the Council of Five and the legendary "taking out of the heads of the Five Families" in The Godfather?-- Choi9999 05:38, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
There was certainly a similarity, especially the way it quickly cut between each of them going down, but nothing actually noteworthy, the cinematics, style of assault, and setting are all quite different. JBK405 16:31, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Can we say that Aang was dead? i mean, not even the waterbenders can resuscitate... (if they can't heal a scar, why would they be able to resuscitate) i think he was fainted near dead but yet not dead.
We can't, and don't, say he was dead; right now all we have is "Very badly hurt, possibly near death, but healed by Katara." We'll need to wait until Season 3 (Or some sort of official press release) to actually know exactly what happened. JBK405 00:16, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
He obviously didn't die. The ramifications would be too great if he didn't and I doubt one lightning strike would kill the avatar. - Dylan0513 00:25, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm removing the trivia about Iroh being able to Earthbend. There is no evidence for this at all. Yes we don't know how he escaped the crystals but that does not constitute him being able to earthbend his way out. Azula proved that with sufficient power, firebending can shatter those crystals. It is show cannon that only the Avatar can bend multiple elements, save except the speacial branches of each bending discipline that can be acheived by masters. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Avogadro522 ( talk • contribs) 18:13, 5 December 2006 (UTC). -Actually someone already removed it for me. Thank you.
there is a comment in the body of the article expressing the view that Toph did not know that she had met Iroh before. This seems illogical and contradictory to events that happened in both "the drill" and "the crossroads of destiny." Firstly, if she could recognize people by earthbending, as she could when we met her (recognizing Aang in the garden), there is no reason she wouldn't recognize Iroh, who she met twice in "the chase," once without being introduced, when he was clearly identified as Iroh in the fight scene when Azula as early as then. This is later confirmed (I thought) when she makes some snotty remark in defense of Iroh's less than successful siege to the Earth Kingdom General. And finally, she showed no shock at learning that her 'old friend' was Iroh in this episode. Why? she knew from the fight scene in "the chase" who he was, because she has no trouble recognizing people even without sight. That's why the normally chilly Toph showed an uncharacteristic amount of concern about his wound after Azula laid the sucker punch on him after the show down in the ghost town.
Yeah! That was a sucker punch on Azula's attack.-DJ 168.212.126.135 16:31, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Toph recognies Iroh as the guy the she met in the woods, and she recognied him as such during the fight in the Chase, but might not know that he's Iroh. He never did identify himself to Toph, at least not with his real name, so for all she knows he's just a random guy who joined in on their brawl.
Now, it'd be logical to assume that, after the Chase, she'd ask one of the other gang members who Iroh was, since they obviously had some sort of history (Katara addressed Zuko by name and they were fighting on the same side); but since Sokka and Aang don't seem to know that she ever met Iroh (Since they plainly asked "You two know each other?"), we can't say that she did.
So, we know that she knows Iroh is the guy she met in the Chase, but we don't know if she knows that he's Iroh, brother to the Fire Lord and all that. JBK405 16:47, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
That's true, we don't know for sure. However, I think that it would be wrong to say definitively that she DIDN'T know, given the strong possibility that she either figured it out herself or was told after the fact by one of the others, so it should be left the way it is, recognizing that they met, but saying nothing else.
Well...yeah. I didn't know the article said she definitely didn't know who Iroh was, I'd have changed that if it did. JBK405 04:21, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Toph probably knows at the end of this eppisode b/c they brought up the whole issue, with iroh's nephew zuko, and sokka and aang like >.< and such.. :-) Orangeypie 23:13, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Iroh seems to enjoy tea not only for it's taste, but also for its firebending abilities. Have you ever dranken hot tea ( or soup) and noticed the heat that seems to stay in your mouth? Iroh managed to firebend this heat and breathe flames, thereby earning him the nickname "the dragon of the west". —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ashto10 ( talk • contribs) 17:33, 6 December 2006 (UTC).
Compared to some of the older episodes, this one seems to have a lot of details. here h2p obviously felt that to much detail was in The Guru. WHat makes the little piece of watchiing Toph fall more important than the other one. And if you are going to protect those two lines so much, why don't you put that much detail in the first season articles. I'm sure they need more work than this one, yet you spend more time fixing this instead of improving the other articles. Cnriaczoy42 18:59, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Actually it seems to go in a wave. Before Fyre, Y, and Myself there was Prototime, Pacific Coast Highway, and Raceberry. I don't see any of them anymore usually. JBK has been moving faster than me so I think Fyre and myself may be replaced soon too :-P.
Anyway, on the subject. Basically it needs to be trimmed to the point that all the important details are covered while all the small minor details are left out. Example: In Guru, you don't need to say that the Dai Li were gripped to the pillars listening in to Mai and Ty Lee when all you would need to say is that the Dai Li listened in on the conversation. Point by Point details make the page to long and much harder to read. We want to give the Beginning, the End, and all the things that led up to it, not the tiny details in between. In Crossroads you don't need to say "They entered the house and Toph used her senses to know that it was empty" when you could just say "They arrived at the house to find it empty." (this would be hard to write due to what happened next, but you get the idea). Also, AVOID QUOTES AT ALL COSTS.

If you look at the very last scene of Katara sitting beside Aang, most of you might notice that she’s staring right at us with a worried look. (I am not very sure, or is she looking at the Earth King?) And if you look at the opening of the first episode (The Boy in the Iceberg), the part when Katara introduces the story to us, there’s a part when she tells us that her father left her village, and she says something like, “some people believe that the Avatar was never reborned into the Air Nomads and the cycle is broken, but I haven’t lost hope…” There, we see Katara looking at us with hopes in her eyes. Do you think that there might be a connection between the last scene of episode 40 and the introduction of episode 1? (I might be completely wrong…) Maybe it’s hinting something? -- 62.101.126.229 17:10, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Somewhat (hah) speculative but when listening to the arrests of the Generals the shackles sound like they are metal (they also look like metal but the sound was what intrigued me). Perhaps the Dai Li use sufficiently impure metal shackles so that they may bend them (as a team or alone) while suspects can't? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 206.74.67.91 ( talk) 21:32, 28 December 2006 (UTC).
You might not have noticed, but this was discussed earlier in other talk pages. Many took the view that a sufficiently trained chain wielder could probably just about do the tricks that the Dai Li did. It was fairly inconclusive, and you may be onto something, and metal bending may be like healing or lightning manipulation; a high level technique not everyone can do, or do well, but not something unique or even THAT unheard of (perhaps some of Bumi's advisors realized his plan wasn't insane, as they knew he could escape from his cage and destroy the Fire Nation's machines). That being said, I think that the agents may have had enough skill to influence the path of the chains, given that they were impurely forged, but not alter there shape and consistency at will, like they might with regular rock, and like Toph managed to do with her cage.
It would make sense, in war time, for the earthbenders not to advertise that a tiny minority of their number could metalbend, as that knowledge would make the Fire Nation more afraid to take prisoners, and encourage them to assassinate the very few masters with this power, many of whom, like Long Feng, are probably important political leaders who wouldn't generally be fighting in the field anyway. Also note that the only other benders besides Toph who we even have the slightest reason to suspect of metal bending are the Dai Li, who are secretive and would fail to advertise their power on general principle.
In Avatarescape.com, after Aang is injured by Azula's lightning, he goes to the Spirit World and must reconnect his past four lives, or the Avatar cycle will end. Any comments about this info?
Although the Avatar Escape info does not belong here, the creators did state that much of the information contained therein is canon.
Guys, Toph isn't a metalbender. She wasn't bending the metal, she was just hitting it so it would budge. The metal she was trapped in, it wasn't pure; not like fire nation metal. So she is not a metalbender, she is a plain old regular earthbender like all the others. Things like this aren't as simple as they seem. Jimblack 22:19, 25 July 2007 (UTC)Jimblack
Well if she was bending it, don't you think King Bumi can bend it too? He's the greatest earthbender in the world. Jimblack 23:44, 26 July 2007 (UTC)Jimblack
