The DMK and PMK were part of UPA government which supported the Sri Lanka Government and the AIADMK had either kept mum or expressed opinions against the Sri Lankan Tamils interest. Further, Congress, BJP, Communists parties paid only lip service to the cause of Tamil peoples. Therefore, the party contested alone in the General Election to Lok Sabha in 2009.
