What I can read from the history of strontianite the exact year when the deposit at Strontian were discovered. The lead ore deposit was discovered in 1722.[1] When the strontium carbonate deposits were discovered is unknown, but after it was established by
William Withering that barite and barium carbonate was established in 1784.[2] The discovery of strontium happened because the barium carbonate from Strontian delivered to the
St Thomas' Hospital behaved strange and
Adair Crawford and
William Cruickshank at the
Royal Military Academy, Woolwich made some tests and found that it was not
witherite but
strontianite. (named a year later).[3]
