Possibly incorrect statement (under Growth of settlement)

Also, 'the property was [sic] divided among a few' suggesting many people shared houses.

This quotes John Marius Wilson's gazetteer of 1870-72 but I query the correctness of interpretation of the quoted statement. At that time land ownership was factor mentioned in gazetteers and I would have interpreted 'the property is divided among a few' as meaning that the housing then existing was in the hands of a smaller than usual number of land/home owners. Do many agree? (Multiple occupancy was commonplace in industrialising villages and towns, that I do not question.) Cloptonson ( talk) 09:22, 16 September 2021 (UTC) reply
