I changed "Russian hero Hadji Murad" to "Tatar hero Hadji Murad". Murad lived, it's true, within the boundaries of the Russian Empire at the time. However, he would almost definitely have balked at being described as Russian. He was a Crimean Tatar at a time not very long after the Crimea's annexation by Russia; further he was a rebel against the Russians.
If anyone is looking for a more neutral way to describe him instead, you might want to consider it from the angle that he's famous because Tolstoy wrote an eponymous book about him in 1904. Paul Drye
More often this is in the order by date rather than alphabetical, I believe. Doc 04:11, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
There's no citation to support the assertion that Reeves was offered the role of James Bond in 1962 -- 68.105.43.65 02:37, 26 April 2007 (UTC).
On his IMDB page it says under Trivia, "At the peak of his bodybuilding career at age 23, he was 6'1", 200 pounds, with a chest measuring 48 inches, a 29-inch waist, and had 17 1/2-inch biceps." Very different from the stats given on his Wikipedia page. 74.100.204.167 05:48, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
On the matter of whether or not Steve Reeves was gay, I know nothing about his personal life and I'm not going to comment, but what's not in dispute is that he was and, for all I know still is, something of a gay icon. Among the evidence for this is a passage in the song ' Sweet Transvestite', from The Rocky Horror Show:
So let me show you around, maybe play you a sound
you look like you're both pretty groovy
And if you want something visual that's not too abysmal
we could take in an old Steve Reeves movie.
( [1]) I think that the article needs something like a Cultural Legacy section; Steve Reeves' contribution to camp is obviously something worth documenting, but not being a huge fan of this particular area I'm not the guy to do it myself. Just suggesting an avenue for future work on the article. Lexo ( talk) 22:57, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Arnold, in 2015, used Steve as the epitome of bodybuilding as it should be, not as it has become (where top contenders look like they're 8 months pregnant....). This is amazing given that Arnold's personal idol and inspiration from Steve's era was Reg Park. Here's a Youtube of Arnold's calling for a return to aesthetically pleasing bodybuilding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebSFUQt26WE
Anyone know where i can get steeve reeves' out of print book online(pdf)? Amazon doesn't have a kindle version. Thanks! :) Dream Eater ( talk) 04:35, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
Interesting aside I think. If you look up the PC cheats for Braveheart on PC, one of them is Steve Reeves. No idea why of course, but in terms on randomness, this is fun. 176.61.28.141 ( talk) 15:34, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
I believe Steve Reeves passed away from complications involving lymphoma. Please see the obituary for Steve Reeves in the New York Times May 5, 2000. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.84.222.181 ( talk) 03:36, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
Wiki page needs to separate out his bodybuilding career from his acting career. That's a job for someone who knows all he did in bodybuilding (aka "physical culture"). Why? Like w/Arnold years later, his body is what opened the doors for his subsequent movie career.
Whoever does this may want to add a link to this Youtube video of a B&W short film in French, where Steve wins some competition in Cannes, France (I think, since I don't speak French). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khxaBVX0unY Knowing the name of the competition, its date and location and the title Steve won are key. The title of the film is "The Most Beautiful Man in the World", acc to the YT.
