With all due respect to the dead subject, I am a little uncomfortable with the statement "Irwin's personality and outrageous antics in the series made him an international celebrity". While he certainly was a great guy, that doesn't really sound very neutral to me, sounds more like a point of view/opinion. Thoughts?-- Badharlick 10:21, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Russell Coight is a parody of a number of well known Australian documentary shows. I don't think the comment that it is an "obvious parody of the Crocodile Hunter" is correct. It is much closer to shows such as the Leyland Brothers than Crocodile Hunter, though it parodies the genre as a whole not any one specific show as described in its own wikipedia article. The Queensland Police Service media release document (JPEG format), linked to on the page, which apparently confirms Mr. Irwin's time of death seems to be a rather blatant screenshot of a rough Microsoft Word document, underlines for misspellings and all. It also includes some gaffes in writing, including missing words or bad phrasing. All in all, it seems like a faked serious-information style and doesn't seem to be reliable enough as a Wikipedia source.
At the same time, I've heard differing accounts including that Irwin did in fact die a week ago and that the news was just released to the general public at this time. However, I have no confirmation for this, and none of the news accounts I've seen support it, so it's easy enough to consign to the rumor bin. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Vintagejonny ( talk • contribs) 06:20, 4 September 2006.

All reports here in Australia say that the injury was to the left side of the chest - the remark about it possibly being the heart can probably be removed. The medical officer at the scene said he suspected there had been a cardiac arrest, but could not confirm that as the cause of death, but that's probably where the talk of physical penetration of the heart started.
...and who can begrudge.
This is truly a sad day. I'd watched Steve for a number of years. Ironically enough, just two days ago my wife and I caught a re-run, on Animal Planet where he actually talked about his death. He stated he hoped that when it was his time, it would be doing what he loved to do. He also said he hoped it would be gotten on tape. I don't know if that was tongue-in-cheek or not, but it certainly is ironical.
My six year old daughter was a big fan of his and is quite saddened by his passing.
According to the Reuters article, he was instrumental is stopping the Australian gov't from opening up crocodile hunting for wealthy (probably foreign) hunters.
Reuter's story [2]
Self-procliamed animal "rights" activists should keep that in mind. (And if you want to do something useful stop those disgusting "caged" hunts where trapped, drugged lions, buffalo and other dangerous animals are "hunted" by rich cowards!)
PainMan 07:03, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
There wasn't much out there in the animal kingdom that Steve was afraid to show us. He was a fearless man with a heart of gold. Out off all the deadly animals he wrestled and taught us about, who would have thought that it would be a stingray to end his life? My condolences to all Steve's loved ones... May your cause for conservation and animal welfare live on. Rest in peace, Steve.
Ok, since I am from the US, I could not register with the Aussie Commonwealth Flag Network, which updates about flag half-staffing. Can anyone confirm if the Aussie flags are going to be half-staffed for Irwin, and if so, for how long? User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 07:24, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
One user is repeatedly reposting that he died of heart failure as a result of the sting. That's probable, given circumstances, but we are not coroners, and those of us who are should not be making such diagnoses. Further, those reports other than that the venom near the heart can possibly kill simply don't exist. Save it for the autopsy, in other words. -- Dennis The TIger 07:27, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
First of all, I would just like to say, Steve's death is a very saddening news, as he has helped animals in so many ways.
However, we must also understand that it is not the stingray's fault, as the rays are probably just following their natural insticts, which is to protect themselves from harm.
Nonetheless, may you rest in peace, Steve Irwin. Bioran23 - To the impossible
In the article, it says that Steve died of a heart puncture, however on the news before it said it was of a lung puncture and poison. can anyone verify this? CattleGirl 09:13, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
It's tragically ironic that Steve Irwin, a man that has grappled with thousands of crocodiles, handled the most venomous snakes on the planet with ease and casually interacted with comodo dragons, has been killed by a mere stingray, of all the animals in the world. Taking into account the countless times he has been rumoured killed, it's deeply saddening to learn now that he's actually been pronounced and confirmed dead. RIP Steve Irwin, you have been a great inspiration for all environmentalists and animal-lovers over the world. Your unique superhuman enthusiasm and profound devotion for the world's fauna has earned you the deepest and most sincere respect both from me personally and countless others. You will be missed. Mogura 10:23, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
I suggest that picture in the infobox be resized, possibly to 200px?
I don't think people should be too far into documenting his death yet. The actual cause of death will not be known until after the coroners report. Daim hes gonna be missed on the Australian and world stage. -- Ari89 07:52, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
I think we can take down the current event template, considering he's dead now... (only 7 hours ago!). What say you?

Rest in peace, mate. I was a fan of yours and I always loved what you did. It's sad to see you go, but at least you were doing what you loved. :) Bwhack 09:39, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

David P. A. Hunter, esq. III Let us to it, Pell-Mell 07:56, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Has anyone else noticed that Animal Planet is still running commercials for tomorrow's programme? It says Steve "presses his luck in the deep" and shows him swimming next to a shark.
Here. Can you change the date of he's die. Thanks -- Nick-zug 07:58, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! R.I.P. This sucks.

I Always thought he was cool. Lexon darkheart
Is it confirmed that the stringray actually managed pierced his heart? That sounds like a freaky thing to occur. RIP Steve.
It said on the news before that it was a lung puncture and poison, as i said above. Can anyone verify this?

Please remember this page for for discussing the Steve Irwin wikipedia entry, not for mentioning what you think of him or his death. This isn't a message board. -- TheTruthiness 08:55, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
In the infobox at the top of the page there is a grammar error, "enviromentalist,tv personality". There should be a space after that comma. Tiny I know but it's driving me insane. Any admin want to fix that? -- Bane s 08:56, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Currently the article says that the incident occured in the early afternoon, but the next paragraph says it happened at 11:00 AM local time which by my calculations makes it before noon. Which is it? - Richmeister 09:05, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
