WP:ASTONISH. I don't think a village with 849 people is the
WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for such a common term. None of my first 50 Google Search and Google Books results for "steep -wikipedia" are about this village, and only one of my first 50 DuckDuckGo search results are about this village. See also

Retain I don't see any problem with the name or note any confusion with its adjective. There are dozens of Hampshire villages I can pick out with simple names like this one, such as
Wield. JAGUAR 17:09, 13 February 2016 (UTC)reply
Support per nom.
WP:USPLACE and not primary topic, since the verb "steep" is very common in cooking --

WP:USPLACE only applies to US places, as the name suggests.

It's times like these that I wish Americans would have their own version of Wikipedia. JAGUAR 19:35, 18 February 2016 (UTC)reply
Support per nom; clear absence of a primary topic, given that only a very small proportion of uses of the word "steep" are references to the village.

According to the 2011 census, it had a population of 849 This important fact has not been mentioned in the main text. I guess the citation could go there as well.
Oops, forgot about that. I've added it in the geography and demographics section JAGUAR 11:45, 23 March 2016 (UTC)reply
a progressive public school I think "progressive" could be linked to
Progressive education
The village name has been spelled in various ways Are all these names in English or in French as well? Foreign names are typically kept in italics.
Added italics to the French names (I'm curious to know why it had French names in the first place) JAGUAR 11:45, 23 March 2016 (UTC)reply
La Stuppe, La Stiepe When were these used? Are they still used? Should be clear.
'La Stuppe, La Stiepe were both used in the 14 century, it is identified with the brackets after 'Stupe'. I hope that makes sense for the reader? JAGUAR 11:45, 23 March 2016 (UTC)reply
An ancestor of mine who migrated from Steep to Nottingham in the 1870s is recorded in the 1881 census as coming from Stup. I guess this represents his pronunciation at the time, as I doubt the census enumerator in Nottingham knew anything about Steep.

The early 17th century was also described as a "great rebuilding" of the village described by whom?

I've done some copyediting. The British History Online is by far the best source, but its stylisation is so old that it's difficult to rephrase some of it. JAGUAR 11:50, 23 March 2016 (UTC)reply
Sources: Ref. 6 seems a bit cloudy. I am not sure if Google Maps can be used as a source.
You're right. I removed it; I don't think it's necessary to source how far the nearest town is etc. JAGUAR 11:50, 23 March 2016 (UTC)reply
Thank you so much for the review
Sainsf! I think I've got everything. I made this article as comprehensive as possible, but it's hard to do so with only a handful of sources. I was lucky enough to find what sources I could anyway, as information on these places are scarce. I wish I could have found better photos on the internet, the scenery is stunning. JAGUAR 11:50, 23 March 2016 (UTC)reply
Awesome
Jaguar! About duplinks, they are simply repeated links. No trouble with the links themselves, but we typically link terms once in the article. That done, I would be happy to pass this article. Indeed, I would love to see the scenery.

Oops, all done now. I've delinked the duplinks. Yeah, the scenery is stunning, it's called Steep for a reason! I was surprised that there weren't any images on it. JAGUAR 12:23, 23 March 2016 (UTC)reply
Hehe, I wish I could take a dozen snaps of it! I am mad at scenery. Getting back to business, I believe the article is ready for GA status now. The copyvio issue has improved and is not serious. The prose is excellent and supported by a sufficient number of sources. I gladly promote this article. Congrats!
