WP:ASTONISH. I don't think a village with 849 people is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for such a common term. None of my first 50 Google Search and Google Books results for "steep -wikipedia" are about this village, and only one of my first 50 DuckDuckGo search results are about this village. See also Talk:Wells, Somerset#Requested move for a similar move request concerning a city in England. sst (conjugate) 16:55, 13 February 2016 (UTC) reply

  • It's times like these that I wish Americans would have their own version of Wikipedia. JAG UAR  19:35, 18 February 2016 (UTC) reply
  • Support per nom; clear absence of a primary topic, given that only a very small proportion of uses of the word "steep" are references to the village. bd2412 T 22:53, 14 February 2016 (UTC) reply

  • According to the 2011 census of England?
  • According to the 2011 census, it had a population of 849 This important fact has not been mentioned in the main text. I guess the citation could go there as well.
  • Oops, forgot about that. I've added it in the geography and demographics section JAG UAR  11:45, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply

Prehistory to Roman

  • The village name has been spelled in various ways Are all these names in English or in French as well? Foreign names are typically kept in italics.
  • Added italics to the French names (I'm curious to know why it had French names in the first place) JAG UAR  11:45, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply
  • La Stuppe, La Stiepe When were these used? Are they still used? Should be clear.
  • 'La Stuppe, La Stiepe were both used in the 14 century, it is identified with the brackets after 'Stupe'. I hope that makes sense for the reader? JAG UAR  11:45, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply
  • Can "ridge" be linked?
  • An ancestor of mine who migrated from Steep to Nottingham in the 1870s is recorded in the 1881 census as coming from Stup. I guess this represents his pronunciation at the time, as I doubt the census enumerator in Nottingham knew anything about Steep. Sjwells53 ( talk) 19:21, 25 October 2023 (UTC) reply

Medieval to Tudor

  • The early 17th century was also described as a "great rebuilding" of the village described by whom?
  • I assume William Page, the author who wrote the history of Steep JAG UAR  11:45, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply
  • Can "depression" be linked?

19th century to Second World War

  • Can "conduit" be linked?
  • and his children attended Bedales School and his wife also taught there Can we avoid repeating the "and...and" structure?

Geography and demographics

  • Steep is located in the eastern southern part of Hampshire Could be clearer if we write "eastern part of southern Hampshire".
  • Good catch, done JAG UAR  11:45, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply
  • "Steep Marsh" is a duplink.
  • I clicked the link and it directs to Steep Marsh just fine? Maybe it was an error on the toolserver's part JAG UAR  11:45, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply
  • sandy loam, with the subsoil being gravel and sand I think we need more links here.
  • Linked everything but sand, as I thought that would be overlinking JAG UAR  11:45, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply
  • The prominent crops are wheat, barley, and oats I think we need not link "wheat" at least.
  • Agreed, delinked! JAG UAR  11:45, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply

Notable landmarks

  • Can chancel and nave be linked or explained?
  • I've linked them, they seem to be important in church architecture JAG UAR  11:45, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply
  • Ropley is a duplink
  • The Harrow is an 18th-century Grade II listed public house and was first built in the 18th century Can we avoid repeating "18th century"?

Possible paraphrasing

Earwig's copyvio detector showed some paraphrasing from the website [ [1]]. You can see the results here. This should be repaired. Sainsf <^> Feel at home 05:48, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply

  • I've done some copyediting. The British History Online is by far the best source, but its stylisation is so old that it's difficult to rephrase some of it. JAG UAR  11:50, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply

Sources: Ref. 6 seems a bit cloudy. I am not sure if Google Maps can be used as a source.

  • You're right. I removed it; I don't think it's necessary to source how far the nearest town is etc. JAG UAR  11:50, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply

That should be all. Good luck! Sainsf <^> Feel at home 04:55, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply

Thank you so much for the review Sainsf! I think I've got everything. I made this article as comprehensive as possible, but it's hard to do so with only a handful of sources. I was lucky enough to find what sources I could anyway, as information on these places are scarce. I wish I could have found better photos on the internet, the scenery is stunning. JAG UAR  11:50, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply
Awesome Jaguar! About duplinks, they are simply repeated links. No trouble with the links themselves, but we typically link terms once in the article. That done, I would be happy to pass this article. Indeed, I would love to see the scenery. Sainsf <^> Feel at home 11:58, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply
Oops, all done now. I've delinked the duplinks. Yeah, the scenery is stunning, it's called Steep for a reason! I was surprised that there weren't any images on it. JAG UAR  12:23, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply
Hehe, I wish I could take a dozen snaps of it! I am mad at scenery. Getting back to business, I believe the article is ready for GA status now. The copyvio issue has improved and is not serious. The prose is excellent and supported by a sufficient number of sources. I gladly promote this article. Congrats! Sainsf <^> Feel at home 12:32, 23 March 2016 (UTC) reply
