KK, I see your point: В 1933 году, в связи с пристройкой к северному фасаду Большого Кремлевского дворца нового корпуса с обслуживающими помещениями, собор Спаса на Бору был уничтожен.

I got an excellent book, which appears partly on the net
[2] (Bought it in the souvenier shop of the Danilov monastary), which amongst things has a fully detailed drawn map of the Kremlin pre-1917 and shows the differences to a similar present day drawing. --

Does a government assembly still use this building?

IIRC some political party (not CPRF or United Russia) got the chance to have their congress in there in the last year or two, but I don't remember which. I thought it was primarily used now for culture shows and one-off government events.
