I found this web page regarding the founder of the village of Wilkesport Ontario: http://www.mhs.mb.ca/docs/people/wilkes_cr.shtml —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.248.189.35 ( talk) 03:27, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
This seems to mean two people – Lord Hicks and Lord Beresford. I cannot identify either. William Beresford, 1st Viscount Beresford fought in Portugal and Spain during the Napoleonic Wars. However, he did not serve under Sir John Moore and he was not at the Battle of Corunna – he was in Portugal, training its army. Nor does there seem any evidence that he was ever in Canada. In 1823, he was transferred as Colonel between two regiments, neither of which was stationed in Canada. None of the other children of George Beresford, 1st Marquess of Waterford seems to have been associated with Canada either. This is definitely a case of {{ citation needed}}.
