How is this different from Strength of Materials?

Can someone add a line explicitly denoting the relationship between Solid Mechanics and Strength of Materials? I thought these were synonymous terms, so I'm confused as to why the articles have not been merged. I think a clarification of the differences and similarities is in order if these don't get merged.
