It's more precise to call ESDP a Third way party, as they have officially declared themselves supporters of Anthony Giddens' doctrine.
It's worth mentioning that during the previous decade the party participated in both of Mart Laar's neo-liberal governments (these times under the name of Moderates and later People's Party Moderates) so in fact they used to be more like a group of liberally minded intellectuals of the right-wing camp. Such a policy contibuted to the heavy defeat in parliamentary elections 2003 and the party tried to regain centre left voters by changing the name to Social Democratic party.
