Station location?
Is there any insight as to why they didn't build the station for the ICBM watch on Attu? That would have been even further "west", reducing flying time; the island is bigger so as to facilitate the aircraft approach; one could have built a longer runway; and I imagine the weather not being quite as vile, with the mountains shielding off the worst of the wind.
