They seem like they're the same exact location. -- Al Ameer son ( talk) 18:50, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
Greek:
Aeschylus Prometheus Bound mentions Karnites, ie (Karne/Tartus), in the time of Ahmose.
Diodurus Myrina tale, which describes the Syria campaign of Thutmose 4, mentions Kerne.
Archaeology:
"The next reference to Sharuhen is in the regnal year 22 Annals of Tuthmosis III" Urkunden IV, 647, line 12, to 648, line 7. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:58B:E7F:8410:E07D:6FAA:5496:6C95 ( talk) 20:43, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
"On his way back from the campaign of Year 7 Amonophis II intercepted a Marianu acting as a messenger of the prince of Mittani in the the plain of Sharon. 6" -- Urkunden IV, 1304
Note: Plain of Sharon here is probably an interpretation of Saruna.
The Amarna Letters, EA241, mentions a king Rusmania of Saruna.
Notes: That Khyan/Hyanu might be an Amorite name, and also with the possible the Mitani/Maryanu references to this city, those would point to a location North of Byblos(where those groups lived), which would disqualify Tell al-Ajjul(South of Gaza), and Tell Al-Farrah(South of Ajjul).
Also, if Aeschylus Identification of Karne is correct, then this city might appear in the bible as Calno/Calneh. (Amos 6:2)(Isaiah 10:9)
