Under the "Biography and Family" section the second paragraph begins "Sultan Mustafa was very influenced by Motu and Patlu." Who or what might this Motu and Patlu be and of what relevance? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kerryqays ( talk • contribs) 10:08, 20 November 2016 (UTC)
Selim III. composed Suzidilara maevlevi ayin, however he was neither one of the mevlevi dervishes nor a Dede in mevlevi order. He only attended the speechs of Seyh Galip and felt affection to mevlevi order. However, I say again, he was not a mevlevi dervish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.122.1.201 ( talk) 17:30, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
The two "versions" of the murder given in the article appear to be exactly the same, save that the second one is more detailed. They also refer to the same general by two different names for no apparent reason. Needs to be fixed. john k ( talk) 15:00, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
This is blatantly wrong. He was murdered on the orders of Mustafa IV. Also he was murdered by palace officials (M. Şükrü Hanioğlu - A Brief History of the Late Ottoman Empire p 54-56) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.71.129.249 ( talk) 10:34, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
I added some badly needed paragraph breaks and repaired some aborted sentences, such as changing
to
I also added a definition and link for "the Porte" which was mysterious within the article and identified and linked Horace Sébastiani in place of the single reference "Sebastiani" The article is pretty good but could use some restructuring, as sections like "Janissary revolt" are included under "Foreign Relations" and "Downfall and assassination" should probably be placed after "Franco-Turkish relationships", and so forth, by a more knowledgable editor. This whole section is almost word for word what's in Cleveland, 62-64 in the fourth edition. I know Cleveland is cited but the text is so close it should either be rewritten or changed into an extended quote.
