In the opera Gotterdamerung, the main character of the opera burned herself to the fire. Does this count as the article mentioned? 24.24.187.165 ( talk) 00:31, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
For reference #6, there is a mention of epilepsy and immolation on the relevant page of the cited text, but it is not available for review. As well, the citation needs the name of the author of the study (a prison doctor) to establish veracity. A prison doctor, a clinician, seems like an unlikely source of information on this point, but I left the citation there for correction. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.130.248.176 ( talk) 20:25, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Self-immolation does not mean specifically to burn oneself. It means to sacrifice one's own life. Why is there an entire article to describe the incorrect meaning of a word? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.65.242.61 ( talk) 19:55, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
On October 4, 2013 a self-immolation took place in the United States on the National Mall in Washington, DC in view of the United States Capitol Building. This should be added to the page. I went and read the sections of the Lotus Sutra regarding the Medicine King and I can find no mention of him self immolating. I will be changing this article to reflect that if an accurate citation is not produced. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.54.34.104 ( talk) 17:53, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

Would anybody help me to create an Italian version of this page, since it doesn't exist yet? Sweet child of fire ( talk) 14:57, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
I couldn't find any information on the term "self-immolation" being used as "setting oneself on fire" in Lady Morgan's France (1817). Self-immolation has been mentioned three times without any description of the word.
Wasn't she the one who coined the term? What does self-immolation actually mean?

Can we also include Kathy Change's self-immolation in the United States section of this article? /info/en/?search=Kathy_Change — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:41:4380:4580:686B:F18F:ABA8:3ED2 ( talk) 22:10, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
As we can see from this talk page, there's many examples of self-immolation that aren't listed in the actual page. Should this page be a comprehensive list of all examples? I assume not. If we agree it shouldn't be, then how do we decide which examples should be listed or should all the examples be on a different page altogether?

There is a separate list article to list out all the incidents. This article should mention and summarize the "waves" of self immolations or self immolations with substantial historic effect, like 1000+ self immolations in India or the one that caused the Arab Spring. Otherwise, this article gets out of control as everyone tries to add the incident that supports their cause. It becomes a heap of disjointed info that's much better served by a list.
