I think it's a bit ridiculous too. It just makes it harder to actually add information, since it has to be added to both articles or summarized for the other in many cases. Or they just get out of sync (as has inevitably happened already; e.g., the main page having more detail on poll numbers this one, and similar other issues spanning all the debates.)
