I'm undoing this obvious vandalism:
On average the balsa wood is larger than the female's throw up; Indian balsa woods can attain a maximum height of approximately 200 cm (6.6 ft), with a wingspan of 250 cm (8.5 ft), making them the world's tallest living flying bird. DrHenley ( talk) 23:41, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
While looking for a good historic painting - esp Mughal miniature - came across this: http://www.archive.org/stream/lordlilfordonbir00lilfrich#page/n86/mode/1up/search/sarus has an image of a supposed Sarus in the menagerie of Lord Lilford that looks more like a Siberian Crane ! Hello, I've signed up to review this article. Hope to have an initial set of comments up in a day or two. Sasata ( talk) 17:23, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
*"This species was described by Linnaeus under the genus Ardea along with the larger herons." What year? Source?
*"Edward Blyth believed that there were actually two "Sarus Crane" species in India, Grus collaris and Grus antigone." When did he express this belief?
*"…predators of young birds include the dingo (Canis dingo) and fox (Vulpes vulvas)" is the
Red Fox the only fox predator, or do other foxes predate as well?
*"Among the Gonds, the tribes classified as "five-god worshippers" consider the Sarus Crane as sacred.[4] The meat of the Sarus was taboo." Can we change Gonds to Gondi people? Wondering about the verb tense change … do the tribes still consider the bird sacred? Is eating the meat still taboo (i.e. should it be "was" or "is")?
*"Although venerated and protected by Indians, these birds were hunted during the colonial period." Is there a link or timeframe for colonial period?
(a couple more)
*"The Sarus Crane is classified as Vulnerable (A2cde + 3cde) on the IUCN Red List." I'm not sure what the letter/number code means, and think not many readers would either. Are they necessary? Any chance of a citation to the IUCN for this statement?
*"Inbreeding effects in the Australian population may need to be studied." Why?
*range map needs a caption
*any chance of a more
RS for the Saras Light Transport Aircraft statement? If not, maybe at least a proper web cite template?
Ok, I think we're almost there. I'll put the article on hold. Sasata ( talk) 08:46, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
There is an edit move from 250 cm to 280 cm which seems to be uncited - ICF gives ~240 http://www.savingcranes.org/sarus-crane.html most sources stop at 250. Is there any WP:RS for 280 ? Shyamal ( talk) 16:21, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
Now considered in genus Antigone per BirdLife and IUCN. Probably Wikipedia should follow? http://www.birdlife.org/datazone/speciesfactsheet.php?id=2787 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.250.0.213 ( talk) 06:19, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
I believe the views of this article increase distinctly during its nesting season. Gentle rising and dropping curves in traffic show genuine biological connections unlike spikes falling off (internet links on reddit etc) and a rising cliff (homework pattern - where there is no interest after a deadline). - would be nice if such graphs for annual cyclicity could be generated more easily - @ MusikAnimal: Shyamal ( talk) 05:57, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
