Even though
this reversion added a citation, I still have issues with the phrase "mentally the streetwise ruffian remained a mafioso, which is the only reality he knows." This should be re-worded to reflect that it is someone's (published) opinion rather than a verifiable fact.

I think the phrase is clear if you read it in the context of the paragraph. Nevertheless, I added a quote to clarify it even further. I hope this addresses your concerns. -
