....wait, wait, hold it. I just cleaned up the Gimli, Manitoba (town) entry, and it just occurred to me: what's the difference between a rural municipality and a town? DS July 1, 2005 12:25 (UTC)
The Royal Canadian Air Force no longer exists - that Gimli is the proposed site for a base should be re-worded to the proper terminology. T. Sutherland 07:37, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
Hey isn't there a cricket ground in Gimli, I am quite sure there is, its unique that its still there from the days when cricket was Canada's national sport, does anyone have more information on this???
The article says the town and surrounding area are home to "the largest Icelandic Canadian population outside of Iceland." I suspect what may be meant is the largest Icelandic population outside Iceland, but I didn't see either claim when I looked at the town websites, so I'm reluctant to make the change without being sure. Which is it? Yngvadottir ( talk) 06:20, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm curious about the origin of the name. Is it just a coincidence Gimli is also the name of a character in the Lord of the Rings? Tolkeen was a student of Norris mythology, so perhaps it isn't too far fetched to say that there might be a common etimology. Do any of the locals even make the connection?
