A question for User:Atdheu, who wrote the section in question. In the article, Ulpiana is described as having "various other public, sacral, profane and utilitarian buildings.". My question is this: what is a "profane" building? Howicus ( talk) 17:20, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
profane - not concerned with or devoted to religion; "secular architecture". The English word "profane" ultimately derives from Latin pro fano, "before, i.e. outside, the temple", "In front of the sanctuary," hence not within sacred ground. Hope it answers your question.
