The text of the entry was as follows: Did you know... that in 1858 Robert Jefferson Bingham created the first photographic catalogue raisonné, showing the works of painter Paul Delaroche? "A new edition" suggests that there had been earlier editions and that the earlier text was not Bingham's. Further editions appeared: with Bingham's text? Can this be improved?-- Wetman ( talk) 14:52, 8 September 2014 (UTC) reply

Your interpretation is correct, the first three editions were by someone else, the fourth edition by Bingham was completely rewritten though (and further rewritten and expanded by Bingham in later editions).
