The photo may be from the collection of Robert Davidson but it is not a portrait of him. Biscuittin ( talk) 00:39, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
First off the photograph is a bit random. His family found a photograph of him after his death and the local paper picked it up and published it. Local papers are not known for their careful insistence on accuracy, and it looks nothing like the drawing.
Moreover the little infobox (how I hate infoboxes) says he was born in Ayrshire and was a civil engineer. His more formal biography elsewhere says he was born to a grocer in Aberdeen and trained as a chemist. If anyone has some more authoritative background, I'd be glad, but I am going to remove the Ayrshire and civil engineer rubbish. It's this kind of thing that gets Wikipedia a bad name.
